I again feel sorry for Virginia in this book. She is different than the rest of her family and feels like the outcast. Even when her older brother does something that could completely tarnish the family name or make her mother look bad they try to cover it up by sending him away. He is already a Prize son to the family and she is the opps that they don't feel like dealing with and hopes will turn out okay if they can just fix her weight. She looks up to her brother so much that it breaks my heart when he does this and still acts like it's not a big deal. He isn't worried about his future because mom and dad will fix it. She is pushed aside in the ordeal and she has to work out her feelings alone then when she tries to go with her mother somewhere her mother is more embarrassed when she leaves than why she left. I felt most sorry for her when she wasn't allowed to go see her friend for Thanksgiving but they were going to ship her brother off. I am glad she took that into her own hands and seemed to become a stronger person because of what she did.

Yes, Lyndsey. I felt bad for her too. I really wanted to punch her parents in the face, especially her mom. I feel like her parent's expectations are way to high. I feel like her mother should know better. She makes me so angry sometimes. I think the only one in her family who has been somewhat nice to her is her sister. The dad is trying but still, they are really lacking in the family department.

I agree but I think the hardships that she goes through is what makes Ginny so easy to relate to. Her problems are things that young girls face these days. This is an age when they are growing up and deciding who they will become while trying to get along with their parents and assert power at the same time.
I also agree that the mothers expectations are too high. I also agree that the dad is lacking when it comes to dealing with his family.

I agree with you both! I felt like in a way her mother almost resented what Virginia looked like. I felt like this book was very emotionally appealing, and students will be able to relate to Virginia. She is such a strong character, and since she had to deal with very difficult events in the story, such as date rape, she still remained a strong role model for young girls.
