RWT: Seasonal Haiku: Writing Poems to Celebrate Any Season - Melissa Riley

I tried to look at lessons plans that I felt I could use in my classroom. I'm all about utilizing my time wisely and productively! A colleague and I are starting a mini-unit for haikus and other poetry for next week during our writing period so I thought what better way to use and incorporate a RWT lesson! Reviewing this website, particularly this lesson, was easy. The outline and tabs are very user-friendly so this website can be helpful to any stage computer user.

As I analyzed Seasonal Haiku: Writing Poems to Celebrate Any Season, I especially liked how other resources and activities were linked to the lesson. I was able to comprehend the procedures, which were rationally planned and sequenced, and I appreciated the simplicity of the outline in the lesson. Since haikus are based upon nature, I feel that students will be able to associate and recognize aspects of the seasons with nature. It seems to be a great introductory lesson for hiakus. Though extensions to this lesson were mentioned, I wish this lesson contained more information of integrating it with other content areas as well as more precise differentiated instruction that is labeled for struggling and advanced students. Overall, I plan to incorporate portions of this lesson within my own classroom next week, especially the publishing piece where students artistically create their own border through torn paper. With Open House approaching, I think these will make a nice display in the hall for visitors.
