All About Me- Use Photos to Write Stories- Tara Crotts

I loved this lesson! What a great way to start off the school year. We always do all about me and the pictures would give the kids lots of ideas to start from. The letter home to the parents about the project is a great way to get them involved in their children's education. The main goals of this lesson were to provide an outlet for children to share life experiences with one another, as well as learn the craft of writing. By focusing on a limited amount of pictures that they can bring in from home, they can develop their ideas and details. I liked the idea of having a dedication page because I don't think it is something that kids notice when they read a book. Also the lesson included an assessment tool that I think is helpful where you can write notes and observations on thier accomplishments during the autobiography unit. The students would feel a great sense of accomplishment upon completing this unit and I think it would be a great idea to invite parents in as a followup so that the kids could read their work.
