Staff Development-Ashley Funderburk

I am focusing my staff development on frontloading instruction. Especially when using content material, it is important for the teacher to assist the students in activating their prior knowledge. By using the connections that the students have with the world around them, teachers are able to facilitate the students in making a personal connection with the new information which will enable them to have a deeper understanding. In order to accomplish this, I plan to teach three strategies that are able to encourage students to activate their prior knowledge. The goal for the teachers is to choose one of the strategies that they will use by applying it to a text that is difficult for their students to understand with the help of their grade level team mates.
