21st Century Writing--Rachel Monroe

My staff development workshop will focus on the shift from "writing" as a separate subject with pencil and paper-to the 21st century writing across the content areas and the incoporation of technology. With the new writing standards being passed down from the state (writing tests in all grade levels-content and creative), teachers need more ideas on how to incorporate authentic writing tasks into all content areas, as well as, how to integrate technology resources as part of the 21st century skills. I will present creative ideas / resources lists on how to incorporate technology websites and materials into writing tasks, as well as give examples of authentic writing topics for content areas in all k-6 grade levels. My small group time would involve teachers breaking into grade levels to explore sites and materials, as well as discuss content area writing samples.
