I plan on doing a staff development on a comprehension strategy called READ 'EM. It will give teachers a hands-out approach of teaching their students how to summarize and identify question stems which will help improve EOG scores. The reading passages are so long and tedious on the EOGs nowadays that it is sometimes impossible for students to read an entire passage and remember what they read about from the beginning because of its length. This strategy will teach students how to take notes and summarize as they are reading which will make answering the comprehension questions a bit more easier. Students will improve their reading compehension skills and they will also improve their test scores. Since the EOGs are coming up soon, I have already attended several staff development workshops on strategies to help students with the EOGs, so I thought it would be appropriate to create my own staff development on something that would be targeted towards EOGs.
