Meredith and I are going to do two staff development workshops entitled: Instructional Strategies that Work. Our workshops are going to be geared towards k-2 educators since we both teach in the lower elementary grades. We have selected four strategies that we feel like are successful in helping k-2 students develop better reading and comprehension skills: Think-Pair-Share, Reader’s Theatre, Direct Reading Thinking, and KWL Plus . We will introduce two of these instructional strategies during each workshop. Our goal is to provide educators with practical and useful strategies. We will provide our participants with the chance to practice these strategies before sending them back into their classroom/work setting. We also plan to incorporate follow up activities where the educators can come and discuss what has/has not worked well with their students.
