Interventions That Increase Achievement among Low-Achieving Students

Even though the idea for my project is basically the same, I have decided to reword my topic.

The problem that I am experiencing in working with lower achieving students is that they may achieve unsatisfactory progress, or they make some progress and then plateau. I would like to research reading interventions, and pair my research with interviews and observations of my students to design learning activities that will help them make more significant academic progress.

My research questions will sound something like this:

How do research-based interventions affect achievement in low-achieving students?

How does student input affect achievement?

I know I will need to change these somewhat, particularly my research questions as they are only preliminary.

Why not market your library?

In this qualitative study, I will interview four librarians in a public library with high per capita circulation but that chooses to use very little (if any) internal or external marketing, as well as interviewing two librarians in libraries of comparable circulation that do implement marketing plans. John H. Research Statement

In this qualitative research Study I will interview and observe 5 graduate students in the ASU Library Science Extension Program (3 from my current Buncombe cohort, two from a cohort in their 2nd semester of the program) in order to determine the learning style adaptations they make when working in a virtual or online learning environment. I will use this information to explore how online classes can better meet the needs of online graduate learners in extension courses. -John Harrington

Problem Statement and Research Question(s)

I am seeking to discover key usability issues with a historical photo digital library created by a university in North Carolina. I will be interviewing a group of collection users identified by an archivist connected with the project (more details about participants forthcoming). Participants will be interviewed face to face if possible or by phone. In addition to this qualitative method, quantitative data from the digital library’s site will also be examined. Informal questionnaires may be used as well if appropriate, though a survey using a tested intrument will not be possible given the time contraints of the study. It is hoped that the research will provide insights regarding avenues for improving the digital library.--Daniel Skinner
